If there is an underlying dysfunction of joint motion creating muscle tension/spasm and/or inflammation in the injured area, there is a need for chiropractic intervention before other strategies can be effective. If the underlying joint restriction cause is not corrected first, the other elements cannot respond and the inflammation and muscle tension will persist.
Further, if for example, exercise is introduced to a musculoskeletal system that is already dysfunctional, at best it will make no change and at worst it will perpetuate what is already wrong. By contrast, introducing the right exercises (both stretch and strength) in the right order and at the right time, the body will respond in such a way as to sustain longer term change and in most cases decrease the susceptibly to recurrence.
