Dr Cameron McGinnis graduated from CMCC (Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College) in Toronto in 1983 and has been in active practice in Sherwood Park since then.
Starting as a sole practitioner after spending a year under the impressive tutelage of Dr Rick Elder, Sherwood Chiropractic Centre now includes four Dr’s of Chiropractic, a physiotherapist, and two massage therapists. Dr McGinnis is in partnership with Dr Fuller, who was a former patient. Additionally, Dr McGinnis is proud to have many other former patients now practicing in the profession.
Multi-professional clinics were not the norm in his early days, but as chiropractic has gained public trust and built its ever expanding base of enthusiastic patients, we now have the ability to work with many other health care disciplines and Sherwood Chiropractic Centre has created numerous referral sources to better serve our patients. These referrals include everything from fitness coaches to multiple medical specialities.
Prior to post graduate studies at CMCC, Dr McGinnis completed a Bachelor of Physical Education degree from University of Manitoba.
His practice philosophy has always been family oriented with a view toward best health outcomes for all his patients. A strong belief in high levels of physical activity, mental and emotional stimulation, intellectual curiosity, and social interaction are the foundation for how he teaches best practices for overall wellbeing and longevity.
He welcomes all patients from a variety of backgrounds and circumstance, and will deliver treatment and education derived from evidence based research and personal clinical experience gained over years of practice.
Dr McGinnis has been an active member of his community in a variety of roles. Among many other activities he has coached high school basketball and competitive swimming, served as Aquatics Director for the 1987 Alberta Summer Games in Strathcona County, and was Vice President of Swim Alberta, and President of both Belvedere Golf Course and Edmonton Keyano Swim Club. He continues to enjoy the stimulation of committee work for various organizations.
As a former university athlete he has maintained an interest in working with athletes in a variety of sports, including national, international, Olympic, and professional athletes. Most specifically he has worked extensively with high level swimmers and has served as the team chiropractor for the University of Alberta Pandas basketball team. Understanding the physical, mental, and emotional needs of competitive athletes is critical to their care. Previous personal competitive experience is a valuable piece of that basic understanding. Quality care and education of young and entry level athletes and general fitness enthusiasts is of equal importance and has always been a big part of his practice.
Dr McGinnis has earned 5 National Championships in two different sports and is an inductee in the Manitoba Basketball and Manitoba Sports Halls of Fame.
In addition to formal education, coaching certifications, and years of practical experience Dr McGinnis has completed Level 2 Medical and Level 1 Junior certification from TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) functional golf training.
In 2023 Dr McGinnis was recognized by the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta with the Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee Medal (Alberta) "for his valuable contribution to the province".
